“Dim Your Light” | Out Now

“Dim Your Light” is like a note to my inner child. I look back on who I was as a kid and watch myself build walls around my heart over time. What I would tell her now? “Don’t let this world dim your light“. It turned out to be a very intimate and personal song and I feel nervous and excited to finally share it with you!

Songtekst

Little blue-eyed girl singing songs in the back seat of the car
She doesn’t know the words but she doesn’t care and makes ’em up
She’s the brightest ray of sunlight I have ever seen
The purest soul she will ever be

She only knows darkness as what happens when we turn off the light at night
Then she closes her eyes, falls asleep with a peaceful mind

If I could grant one wish
I’d wish she knew how perfect she is
That she would never change a single thing
I just wanna keep her safe from what can be a ruthless place
I just wanna hold her tight and say
Don’t let this world dim your light

Teenage red-eyed girl is coming home from school
She goes straight to her room, won’t talk like she used to
Yeah, someone told her she’s flawed ’cause she’s different
And she believes it

Now she only knows darkness inside
So she closes her eyes to escape from a restless mind

If I could grant one wish
I’d wish she knew how perfect she is
That she would never change a single thing
I just wanna keep her safe from what can be a ruthless place
I just wanna hold her tight and say
Don’t let this world dim your light
Don’t let this world dim your light

Now that girl is looking at me from the mirror
I’m so sorry that I couldn’t save her
From all the noise trying to tell you what you can and cannot be
I miss her
I miss me

If I could grant one wish
I’d wish she knew how perfect she is
She would never change a single thing
I just wanna keep her safe from what can be a ruthless place
I just wanna hold her tight and say
Don’t let this world dim your light
Don’t let this world dim your light
You gotta let it shine

Love, Sylvia
