Identity (Acoustic Version) | Out now

To thank you for all the support and lovely responses to “Identity”, my producer Nick and I made this acoustic version with lots of mandolin & acoustic guitar! It’s a more vulnerable version, with lots of space for the lyrics and vocals to shine. I hope you like it!

Day 6/6 - Goodbye day. King George Island 🛫 Pu Day 6/6 - Goodbye day.
King George Island 🛫 Punta Arenas

Time to say goodbye. After a couple of days in our bubble we had to make our way back to the real world. We boarded a plane that looked like a chinstrap penguin and flew from King George Island to Punta Arenas.🐧

I’m gonna miss all the friendly faces of the crew, who made this such an unforgettable experience. If any of them are reading this; thank you so much! I hope to see you again sometime.🤗

On the first day they promised us that the expedition would be life changing, that we wouldn’t be the same. And I think they were right.

We only spent a couple of days in this remote place on earth, yet it felt very weird being back in the normal world. Like a reverse culture shock. The people, the colors, the sounds, it all felt very intense. And I could still feel the boat swaying. Sea legs are real.

I can’t quite put into words what changed in me. But it was very humbling to spend some time in a place where human beings are not the center of everything. I loved connecting with nature and animals and I feel very motivated to take better care of this beautiful earth. 🌍

It’s truly amazing how 6 days can make that much of an impact. I’m kinda sad that it’s over, but I can’t believe I got to experience this in the first place. Very grateful.

Big shoutout to my mom for taking me on this wild adventure. I’ll hold on to these memories for the rest of my life.❤️❤️❤️ @boekbijsandra.nl
Day 5/6 - Pendulum Cove & Fort Point Starting the Day 5/6 - Pendulum Cove & Fort Point

Starting the day with a landing on Pendulum Cove, Deception Island. This is actually an active volcano. Its last eruption was in 1970. Such a cool landscape and so different from all that we’d seen so far.

In the afternoon we went on a zodiac cruise at Fort Point. We got to see a lot of fur seals and also a baby elephant seal. The fur seals were pretty curious and playful. One of them even tapped our zodiac. And that was the last excursion of our trip 😭

The last night was so much fun!! I got to play some songs with @sergeydeboy, the pianist on board. It was such a perfect and happy night. I fell asleep with a huge smile on my face, feeling nothing but gratitude.✨

I’m a very, very lucky girl.🥰
Day 4/6 - Neko Harbor, Skontorp Cove & polar plung Day 4/6 - Neko Harbor, Skontorp Cove & polar plunge

We got to step into a winter wonderland at Neko Harbor. Hiked up the hill to a beautiful viewpoint ❄️

Lots of Gentoo penguins building nests 🪹: the male penguins hand over pebbles and the female penguins put them in the right place.

After we got back from this beautiful hike we went to the ship’s “Marina deck”, where we got a warm drink and had a beautiful outlook over the ocean and icebergs. A few minutes after we got there, like it was scheduled by the crew, some Minke whales showed up and gave us a breathtaking show. They came so close to the ship and zodiacs. One of the most magnificent things I’ve ever seen.🥹

And that was only the morning.

In the afternoon we got to go on another zodiac cruise through the beautiful Skontorp Cove.

Then it was time for the polar plunge!! 58 guests decided to jump into the almost freezing waters (1 degree celcius). The other guests cheered us on from the decks. I loved the atmosphere. Everyone was so excited and there was a huge feeling of togetherness. The sun was shining and the view was extraordinary. The cold actually wasn’t that bad and I’m so glad I took that opportunity.

That feeling of togetherness stayed as the night fell. It was a fun night of dancing, chatting and getting to know everyone a bit better.💃🏼

Starting to feel very comfortable and happy with ship life. Unfortunately, the next day would be the last full day already.🥲
Day 3/6 - Mikkelsen Harbor & Cierva Cove Today we Day 3/6 - Mikkelsen Harbor & Cierva Cove

Today we got to set foot on Mikkelsen Harbor. There used to be a whaling station here, which explains the large amount of whale bones on the beach. We went on a short hike by a Gentoo penguin colony and some seals taking naps.

In the afternoon I went kayaking in Cierva Cove.🛶 Got to share a kayak with my new friend Satish. It was very quiet and peaceful to be among the icebergs on a kayak. The only sounds I could hear were the waves, the cracking of the ice and the occasional rumbling of an avalanche in the distance. Magic.✨
Day 2/6 - Brown Bluff & Hope Bay The day started Day 2/6 - Brown Bluff & Hope Bay

The day started with a landing on Brown Bluff, where we got to see many Adélie and Gentoo penguins and one lost Chinstrap penguin 🐧There were also some seals 🦭

Fun facts about penguins that I learned:

We were here around the time the baby penguins are ready for their first swim. This is also when the mother penguin will abandon them. It’s time for them to stand on their own.

Leopard seals are in the waters waiting for the chicks to go for their first swim. They don’t really know what they’re doing yet, so they’re easy pray. We got to witness a leopard seal catching and ripping apart some of the penguin chicks, who went for their first and last swim ever 😬 All part of nature and pretty rad to see.

Another fun fact: some of the penguins look a little rough or got funny haircuts. This is because penguins go through a “catastrophic molt” each year. They lose all of their feathers and get new ones over the course of three to four weeks. During these weeks they kinda feel like shit. They can’t swim, they can’t eat, they probably feel very itchy and they kinda just have to embrace it and suffer.

In the afternoon we enjoyed a very interesting whale lecture by @krisjonnes (who’s also a phenomenal nature photographer!). Stay tuned for some whale fun facts in one of my next posts.

After that it was time for a zodiac cruise around Hope Bay. Here you can find an Argentinian science station, where 55 people live year round. Imagine living so remotely, with only 54 other people.

After diner I saw my first whales ever from the observation deck, as the sun sank into the ocean 🌅

Can’t believe all of that happened in one day! This trip might seem short, but it’s filled with so many adventures that it feels so much longer.

This night may have been the highlight of the trip. Only in Nashville there’s an open mic, where a crazy talented band plays your song (without ever hearing it before). I mean… These pictures and videos put the biggest smile on my face. What a night.🥹
